Governance

As a Canadian nonprofit organization established in 1978 in Victoria, British Columbia, the Victoria Genealogical Society (VGS) is registered with the Province of British Columbia, and as such must comply with the Societies Act.

As a Canadian charity, VGS is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Our VGS Constitution was last updated and approved at the 2018 VGS Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Our VGS Bylaws were updated and approved at the 2019 VGS Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held every year in June.  The 2023 AGM Package is available for viewing.

VGS Board of Directors

The VGS Board of Directors are responsible for the operations of the VGS Society and Charity. The eleven voting Director positions include President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and up to seven Directors-at-Large. Directors are elected for 2-year terms at an AGM, and are filled by VGS members in good standing on a volunteer basis.

Non-voting Directors and Coordinators may be appointed annually by the Board as deemed necessary for the effective operation of the Society. In addition, our dedicated and talented volunteers are key to the success of our society.
