VGS QueriesThe VGS Queries Committee will conduct searches of a variety of sources. Please consult the fee schedule.
British Columbia Vital Event Records Fees for researching British Columbia Vital Event - Birth, Marriage and Death queries are as follows.
Obituary Search The charge for an Obituary search is $10.00 with no guarantee that an obituary was published or that a newspaper was available for the time period and location being searched.
Cemetery Transcripts Lookup service for 9 of the cemeteries in the British Columbia Cemetery Finding Aid. Don't forget to check the BC Vital Event index for Birth, Marriages and Deaths (see links above) before sending your query. VGS has the 1928 to 1995 Royal Oak Burial Park Transcription Index. BC Cemetery Finding Aid (BCCFA) or Cemetery Transcripts $5.00 per entry.
Tombstone Photographs Digital photographs of tombstones in the Victoria area can be provided by email or post at a charge of $15.00 per photograph. There will be no refund if the tombstone cannot be located.
Wills Search A search for BC wills and probate files is $20.00 for 10 pages and under with a charge of $1.00 per page thereafter. If no will is found to have been written or probated, no refund can be issued.
City Directories A search is $10.00 for a 20 year span which includes up to 5 pages,with an additional charge of $1.00 per page thereafter.
Family Histories The VGS library currently contains over 145 unique books for 343 families. Search the online catalog of the VGS Library Database using the family name. $5.00 includes the search and copies of up to 5 pages, (subject to copy write law) then $.50 per page for any additional copies. This price includes postage and handling.
Victoria and Area Pioneers $5.00 includes the search and up to 5 pages, then $.50 per page for any additional copies. This price includes postage and handling.
General Research Queries We also provide searches of other inhouse resources at $25.00 per hour. Please contact the Queries for more information.
Queries published in the Journal Queries of not more than 150 words in length (including name and address of sender) are free for VGS members and at a charge of $5.00 for non-members. The query will be published in one copy of the Journal, and the letter placed in the Society Library. Queries may be abbreviated prior to publishing at the editor's discretion.
Back Issues (previous 2 years only) and Selected Articles (scanned or photocopied) from the Jounal Back issues are available for $2.50 plus postage of $1.25 in Canada and $2.50 (Canadian dollars) elsewhere. Selected articles from the journal are available for $2.00 (Canadian) each. Vol 1-30 are Indexed
