FAQ: What is the VGS Burial Database project?

A current project of the Victoria Genealogical Society is to provide genealogy researchers an avenue to search cemeteries located primarily on Southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands for burial information.  Led by the work of volunteer Judy Wasylenko, we have developed VGS burial indexes encompassing a total of 46 cemeteries on Southern Vancouver and the Gulf Islands - see cemetery lists below for coverage.

The VGS Burial Indexes currently hold over 100,000 names.  For easy reference, the online versions of these Burial Indexes include the names of deceased individuals and the associated cemetery name.

FAQ: How can I obtain full burial information?

To determine if a specific name is recorded in the full version of our VGS Burial files, researchers should first search the above VGS Online Burial Indexes for the name and cemetery location they are researching.  If the name is found, researchers can then obtain all the data we have on these burial(s).  Our full index contains a variety of additional information, but may not be complete for each burial.

To obtain more burial information, researchers can either:

Visit the Victoria Genealogical Society Learning Centre to view the full VGS Burial files.  Access is free to VGS members.  The public is welcome for a small visitation fee.
